St. Louis' location near the center of the country makes it easy to get to Washington University from any part of the continental United States.
Arrival by Air:
Saint Louis Lambert International Airport (code: STL) is served by all of the major carriers, with the most frequent service provided by American and Southwest. There are two terminals at the airport: most airlines arrive at “Main” (including all of the major carriers), but Southwest arrives at the “East” terminal.
For $3.75 you can take the MetroLink light rail system from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to the Danforth Campus. Board the train at either the Lambert Airport Main Station or the Lambert Airport East Station (trains leaving the airport travel in only one direction; red line). Exit the train at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station. Cross the platform and wait for the next westbound train going to Shrewsbury I-44; blue line. Board that train and take it two stops to the University City/Big Bend Station. This station is at the intersection of Big Bend and Forest Park Parkway. Exit the train and take the steps or elevator up one flight, then take the underground bridge across the tracks. Walk up the ramp, then take the steps or ramp to ground level. Trains run every 15-20 minutes, and it takes approximately 30 minutes from the airport. Trains stop running near midnight, so late arrivals should double-check the schedule. Tickets are sold at vending machines as you approach the platform. NOTE: tickets require validation (time stamping) in orange pillars before boarding the train.
It is about a 10 minute walk from the University City/Big Bend Station to the Summer Programs office (6618 Shepley Dr., St. Louis, MO 63105) and Shepley Dorm. Walk straight along Big Bend; cross Forsyth Blvd. (at the traffic light) and turn left into Shepley Drive. Follow the road until you come to the Summer Programs office on the right (please pardon the summer construction).
