Shino Hayashi graduated from Tsuda College in Tokyo with a B.A. in English. She received her M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from the University of Minnesota and her M.A. in Japanese Language and Literature from the University of Wisconsin. She has taught at various institutions, including Gaigo High School in Yokohama, University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, Swarthmore College, International Christian University in Tokyo, Middlebury College, and Washington University in St. Louis. She presented her research at such conferences as Second Language Research Forum (SLRF), Southeastern Association of Teachers of Japanese (SEATJ), Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA), and Central Association of Teachers of Japanese (CATJ). She is a recipient of the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship and has served as interviewer for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program at the Japanese Consulate in New York.
