Charry received a B.A. in history and an M.A. in Korean history from Sogang University, South Korea. Her master thesis, titled “The emergence of 'Joseon Mathematics' in mid-19th century,” explained how the Chosŏn (Joseon) elites and professional mathematicians in the 19th Century recognized the difference between their mathematics and that of the Ming and Qing dynasties and how that recognition fostered the emergence of distinct Korean mathematics during the era. Currently, she is interested in the history of Korean science and the intellectual history of Korea in the 17th-19th century, as well as how to relate Korean history with East Asian and global history.
