Wenhui Chen and Ke Nie have been promoted to senior lecturer effective July 1, 2020.
Nie and Chen have taught at Washington University in St. Louis since 2007. Both have been instrumental in the continued development of WashU’s Chinese language program, which is known for its excellence in teaching heritage as well as second-language speakers. Nie’s research interests include phenomenology and pedagogy, while Chen researches the pedagogy of grammar and language teaching techniques. Nie was awarded the Arts & Sciences Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2016.
Marvin Marcus, chair of East Asian Languages and Cultures, said of the new senior lecturers: "Ms. Chen and Ms. Nie are mainstays of our Chinese language program. They are master language instructors, having taught at multiple levels of our rigorous and highly-regarded language program, and their students hold them in high regard. What is more, they have contributed to the department in various service capacities, to the larger university community, and to the field of Chinese language pedagogy."
Congratulations to both Chen and Nie!
