Two new books by East Asian Languages and Cultures faculty outline approaches to teaching Chinese and Korean.
Xia Liang, teaching professor of Chinese, is the author of Teaching Chinese in American Colleges (Beijing Language and Culture University Press, 2020), a new book about pedagogical approaches to teaching Chinese at the university level. At Washington University, Liang coordinates the Chinese language program. She draws on this experience to discuss numerous aspects of teaching Chinese at American colleges and universities, from program development to teaching heritage language learners.
Taewoong Kim, lecturer in Korean, is the author of Korean Language Proficiency Test Preparation TOPIK 2 Writing (Hakusuisha Publishing, 2020), which helps students prepare for the standard proficiency test for non-native speakers of Korean. Kim teaches second- and fourth-year modern Korean at WashU.
